The Heart of Our Work: People
Every day we see resilience. We see courage. We see people who are working hard to rebuild their lives despite enormous barriers. Our job is not to “fix” people it is to remove the obstacles that stand I their way and to create the conditions where they can succeed.
A Continuum of Support, Not a Single Intervention
The Journey Home reframes our work around four interconnected pillars:
1.Shelter & Transitional Housing Immediate safety and stabilization for people in crisis and a supported bridge toward long-term housing.
2. Building Affordable Housing Developing, preserving, and managing homes that anchor stability for generations and help prevent homelessness.
3. Employment & Skills Training Creating pathways into the job market and building trades by helping people overcome the practical barriers that stand between them and stable employment.
4. Community Development & Neighborhood Renewal Investing in neighborhoods so families can thrive where they live.

The Journey Home is All of Us
Ending homelessness is not the work of one organization. It is the work of a community. The Journey Home invites everyone, donors, employers, developers, neighbors, policymakers – to be part of the solution.
Together, we can ensure that every journey leads home.
Today
- New Beginnings is currently working on the development of a Community Land Trust and a Social Enterprise with another non-profit development group to combine all elements of the above to build affordable housing.
2012
- In 2012 New Beginnings began its neighborhood development with redeveloping vacant lots, foreclosed homes and the rehab of houses in concentrated areas close to its downtown area. This included the development of Small Houses that utilized Transitional Jobs graduates and vacant lots. These projects created income generating housing for selected neighborhood development.
2010
- The Transitional Jobs Program began in 2010 and created job ready skills, reduced barriers to employment and placed difficult to employ people in community companies.
2005
- New Beginnings opened up transitional housing in a donated Days Inn located in downtown Hutchinson, KS.
- Also in 2005, New Beginnings and supporters developed it first Low Income Housing Tax Credit project with 24 apartments. The building more affordable housing units continued with 150 units of housing being built, some commercial, some affordable, and some moderate income units.
1989
- New Beginnings was founded in 1989 by a group of community members who were concerned about the number of people becoming homeless. As concern uncovered layers of causes in the community, this group began to address each as it became obvious. The original shelter was an old boarding house and housed several hundred people each year.
