Nyla Showalter probably scoffed at the notion that she was a hero, but for years she arrived at New Beginnings several times a week with gallons of milk to drop off for the people residing with us, always leaving with an "I love you" Nyla provided other items, and even provided life skills instruction on a one-to-one basis. It was the bit of her self that Nyla donated to others that made her so special. The encouraging word, the constant smile, and the warm hugs were as important as the things she brought. She was a true role model and the definition of a hero.
Do you know someone who has "gone beyond the call of duty" someone who goes out their way to help others? Nominate them for the Halstead Humanitarian Awards
